What is a SAN?SAN stands for Storage Area Network. A SAN is used to remotely connect high-capacity storage devices to servers so that the servers think that it is connected locally. The goal is to allow for flexibility in the size, type, and location of storage while the server operates as if the SAN was just another hard drive. Another benefit of a SAN is that more than one server can access it at the same time so a SAN can save you money by not having to buy high-performance storage for each individual server. PsyStore SANs are arrays of hard drives that pool their capacity together to act like one big storage device.  PsyStore SANs keep a few hard drives as backup in case of a drive failure. If a drive that is in use were to fail the information on that drive would be rebuilt using parity stored on the backup drives. Parity is information describing the information that is stored on all of the other drives and is derived from mathematical comparison of the data in the array. PsyStore SANs can also be set up so that two SANs can mirror each other and were one to lose network connectivity the other would immediately take its place with no downtime. This is ideal for a high-availability VMware ESX cluster. CompatibilityThe PsyStore SAN supports both iSCSI and NFS mounting. The PsyStore provides excellent performance over two Gigabit links. We have fully tested the PsyStore with the latest VMware ESX and found it to be completely compatible.
