Do you have any laptops or other mobile products?

A mobile Open Computer is in development, however it is not yet available.

When will laptops be available?

It is still too early to say when a mobile Open Computer will be ready for release. All Open Computing newsletter subscribers will be automatically notified when a release date is set.

How do I use a PC keyboard in Mac OS?

Psystar optionally bundles standard PC keyboards and mice with our systems. They are fully supported in Mac OS X Leopard. The "Apple" key is the same as the "Windows" key. To eject a CD from the drive simply press "F12" or drag the CD icon on the desktop to the trash can.

Is Blu-Ray supported in my OS?

Blu-Ray Read/Write capabilities are fully functional in all operating systems offered by Psystar. Blu-Ray video playback requires support from the media player software. There is no Blu-Ray software capable of playing back Blu-Ray video for Mac OS or Linux

Can I use TimeMachine or Profile Migration to transfer all my files and settings in Mac OS X?

TimeMachine Restorations and/or Profile Migrations from any other computer are unsupported and may cause your system to become unstable or unbootable.

Will my software work with OS X Leopard?

Psystar has tested many OS X software titles on the Open Computing line of products. Among the software tested is Aperture 2, Final Cut, and the Adobe Creative Suite, and all the software bundled with the OS itself. We have not found any software incompatibilities whatsoever. However, Psystar cannot guarantee that any third-party software will work in Leopard. Psystar cannot be responsible for every piece of software our customers choose to run on their computers. Support for third party applications may be done at the discretion of the Psystar Support Team.

Does it work with Panther or Tiger?

We have not tested any Open Computers with older versions of OS X and cannot comment as to the functionality with either of these versions of OS X.

What operating systems can the Open/OpenPro run?

The Open and OpenPro can run Microsoft Windows XP and XP 64-bit, Windows Vista and Vista 64-bit, Linux (32 and 64-bit kernels), and Mac OS X Leopard to various degrees of support.

Can I load my own operating system?

Yes, you can order your Open Computer with whichever operating system you like and install your choice of operating systems afterwards. We do not provide support or assistance for the installation of OS X Leopard outside of our facilities at this point in time. Psystar also specifically supports the operating system that was ordered with your Open Computing product. We will be unable to support any OS X installations that did not originate from Psystar. If you would like to have a dual boot system please note it must be purchased at the time of your initial order.

Will you provide instructions on loading the Leopard operating system?

If you purchase Leopard with your Open Computer you will be able to receive a restore disc which will allow you to reinstall your Leopard OS X operating system directly from the original retail-packaged DVD which is included in your computer.

Can I receive updates for my OS?

Psystar fully supports OS updates using the built in automatic update utility in each OS.

Can I dual-boot Leopard and Windows or Linux?

Yes. Simply add the Dual-Boot Configuration item to your order of with Open Computer or OpenPro.

Do the Open Computers have wireless or bluetooth?

Our Open Computers are now available with an optional Bluetooth dongle as well as an optional PCI-Express 1x 802.11n wireless card.

Can I run Windows in Parallels or VMware Fusion?

Both Parallels and VMware Fusion operate correctly on the Open Computers. However, Psystar is not responsible for providing support for third-party applications. See Can I dual-boot Leopard and Windows or Linux? for information on dual-booting two Operating Systems. This method is fully supported by Psystar.

Note: Recently some users have experienced difficulty using Parallels Desktop on the Open Computer. If you are having any problems with Parallels the Open Computer try VMWare Fusion.

How many RAM slots does the Open/OpenPro have?

The Open has 2 RAM slots and the OpenPro has 4 RAM slots. We cannot guarantee that any RAM or other hardware components that you may install or upgrade will work. Keep in mind that any damage to your hardware by misuse or misinstallation will void any warranty as we warranty defective parts and do not protect against operator failure or physical damage (including, but not limited to, electrical surges and water damage).

How many hard drives can the Open/OpenPro hold?

The Open Computer can hold 2 SATA hard drives total. The OpenPro can have 4 internal SATA drives total. Keep in mind that any damage to your hardware by misuse or misinstallation will void any warranty as we warranty defective parts and do not protect against operator failure or physical damage (including, but not limited to, electrical surges and water damage).

What network options are there?

All systems have built in Ethernet connections. The speed of the Ethernet connection is posted on every system's product page. Most systems will have at least one 10/100/1000 megabit port. We currently offer a PCI-Express 1x wireless 802.11n card.

Is the Firewire Expansion Card Powered?

The firewire expansion cards do not provide power to the firewire devices. If you require powered firewire you can use a firewire hub to inject power through firewire to your device.

Will my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard wake my computer up?

The Bluetooth dongle that we provide can operate with Bluetooth input devices but will not allow for the Bluetooth devices to wake the computer from sleep. Mouse/Keyboard/Dongle packages should allow the computer to wake from sleep and power on via Bluetooth as the dedicated Bluetooth dongles emulate the USB keyboard. The Bluetooth dongle we offer has been tested to work with the small Apple Bluetooth keyboard.

How long does it take for my order to arrive?

Psystar systems are configurable and are built-to-order. Orders usually take one business day to process, and are then placed into the build queue. Typical build queue length is 3-5 business days. Use the map below to estimate ground shipping time.

Can I buy from Psystar If I'm ouside of the United States?

We are currently offering international shipping for our customers worldwide. The shipping cost can be calculated from the shopping cart on our online storefront prior to checking out by clicking on the "Get Quote" button.

What sort of payment is accepted for purchases?

Psystar accepts Visa/MasterCard on our online store. We also accept Google Checkout and all forms of payment that are available through Google. International customers can also opt to pay with International Wire Transfer if preferred.

Can I place an order over the phone?

For your security we do not accept credit cards over the phone. However if you have any sales questions or need assistance checking out please do not hesitate to call us.

Do I recieve a copy of the OS that I purchased pre-installed?

If you purchase the operating system from us you will receive a licensed copy of the operating system on its installation media (CD or DVD). Windows OSes are OEM versions and will be operational strictly on the computer with which it was purchased as that is how Microsoft's OEM licensing works.

What kind of warranty do Open Computer's come with?

Psystar will be your intermediary for the exchange of defective parts in the Open Computer and OpenPro for one year (365 days) from your original purchase. If any parts are defective then send us an e-mail or just call us, send it back to us, and we will send you a replacement. If a component of a product is defective then Psystar will exchange defective components for up to 1 year (365 days) with shipping paid for by the end-user to Psystar Corporation. As of April 18th, 2009 all Psystar computers come standard with a 3 year LIMITED warranty. After the first year the customer will be responsible for the shipping cost of the bad/defective product. Additionally, if the exact product is not available, Psystar will exchange it for one of equal performance. Keep in mind that any damage to your hardware by misuse or misinstallation will void any warranty as we warranty defective parts and do not protect against operator failure or physical damage (including, but not limited to, electrical surges and water damage).

Terms Of Service

1. Privacy.

Psystar Corporation does not share any information about its clients with any other businesses, institutions, or persons without the express approval of the client(s) in question. Information collected is for the express purpose of assisting with customer service and support. Psystar does not store any billing information other than the shipping address and billing address of the registered users. Psystar does not store any credit card numbers. All information collected during product purchasing, when visiting the website, or when communicating with a sales/support representative, and its use, is covered by this, Psystar's Privacy policy.

Psystar will occasionally collect information that can be used to identify hardware devices attached on your computer. This includes motherboard specification, CPU video cards, etc. This information will be stored on our server’s separately from your name and account information.

Information collected is for the express purpose of assisting with customer service and support.

2. Disclaimer of Warranty

Psystar Corporation makes no warranty of any kind regarding the Rebel EFI software download of which Psystar provides on an "as is" basis. Psystar expressly disclaim any representation or warranty that the software will be free from errors, viruses or other harmful components, that communications to or from the Site will be secure and not intercepted, that the Services and other capabilities offered from the Site will be uninterrupted, or that its Content will be accurate, complete or timely. The fact that Psystar is including or offering any Product or Service on the Site is not an endorsement or a recommendation of the Product or Service.

4. Delivery Policy

Items are built to order and may take from one to seven business days to be built depending on the size of the build queue and exoticness of their configuration. Products with Intel Xeon processors may require extra build time due to availability of specialized components for these systems. All of Psystar's products require adult signature upon delivery. Psystar validates all shipping addresses with AVS(Address Verification Service) technology by Authorize.net which places requirements on the shipping address of products in relation to the billing address. Psystar does not control the AVS technology. Customers are responsible for selecting their desired shipping method and transit times can vary greatly based on their selection.

Technical issues sometimes may arise which may delay or prevent delivery of your product. Delayed delivery of products will be recorded and the product sent to you once issue has been fixed.

5. Order Cancellations

Hardware Orders

Hardware orders can be canceled with a full refund up to 24 hours from the time that the order is received by Psystar Corporation. The procedure for cancellation will be to forward the e-mail with your order confirmation to sales@psystar.com. The e-mail must be received within 24 hours of the placement of the order and have CANCELLATION in the subject line or else it will be overlooked and not constituted as an order cancellation eligible for a full refund. After 24 hours of placing your order your funds will have already been processed and thusly you must comply with and wait the appropriate amount of time for a refund. Psystar reserves the right to cancel orders for any reason. Cancellations initiated by Psystar will be refunded in full.

Software Orders

All Software orders are final. There is no return/cancellation of software products. Purchase of "Full Version" does not guarantee the complete functionality of all devices. Psystar is not responsible in any way for any data loss or damage to your computer as a result of installation and clearly recommends that provisions be made to save data prior to installation.

6. Returns

Hardware Orders

Hardware orders can be returned up to seven (7) days from the delivery date of your product for a full refund minus the shipping cost and a 25% restocking fee. The Return Merchandise Authorization form was be filled out and sent in within the seven (7) day return period. Inaccurate information will prevent or delay your confirmation from being processed. Once form is received and verified and RMA number will be given with the instructions on how to return the computer. A refund will be processed after the product is received in the original packing material and all original contents are included. All items returned are shipped back by the customer. If a returned item is damaged then the customer will be responsible for the damages therefore, it is suggested that the customer insure the package with the shipping company. If a valid tracking number is not presented within the 24 hours the return will no longer be accepted nor can the computer be returned.

Software Orders

All purchases are final and non-refundable. At the time your purchase is made, your method of payment will be charged for the amount shown, regardless of whether or not the authentication code sent to you is used. The REBEL EFI software is available for download and trial installation prior to purchase. At the time of purchase the purchaser has had the opportunity to review and evaluate the software and be made aware of its compatibility with components on their computer. The authentication code provided at the time of purchase can only be activated on a single computer. Additional licenses must be purchased to accommodate one license per computer. CREDIT WILL NOT BE GIVEN FOR ANY REASON INCLUDING NONUSE OF THE PRODUCT.

Open Computer and OpenPro

When you purchase an Open Computer or OpenPro you understand that you are not purchasing a computer made by Apple Computers, Inc. You understand that Apple Computers does not support the Open Computer or OpenPro in any capacity and that they may not approve of your usage of the Open Computer. In the same token Psystar does not guarantee that each and every program and feature will operate correctly as the Open Computer and/or OpenPro is not supported by Apple Computers. Psystar does not develop the OS X operating system. All copies of OS X sold by Psystar are legitimately licensed and purchased from Apple Computers and are not pirated in any way. Psystar does not guarantee that any of your peripherals, Apple-related or not, will function correctly. Psystar will not be responsible for your usage of the Open Computer and/or OpenPro in any way. Psystar is not responsible for any legal repercussions brought upon you due to your use or involvement with the Open Computer and/or OpenPro.
